Dr. Mahwash Rana (HOD)
Introduction
Dermatology is an essential part of the curriculum for final year medical students.The aim of teaching dermatology isto enable students to identify common skin disorders as well cutaneous signs of various systemic diseases.
The Department of Dermatology aims to provide students with core understanding of common dermatological disorders along with principles of their management to facilitate them in becoming well-rounded clinicians. The faculty is dedicated to lead students towards their goals of becoming knowledgeable, competent and empathetic physicians who diagnose and treat their patients using holistic approach.
Dr. Mahwash Rana has done her MBBS and FCPS in Dermatology from King Edward Medical University/Mayo Hospital, Lahore. She has been working as Assistant Professor of Dermatology in Continental Medical College since 2014. She is actively engaged in teaching and practice of medical dermatology with special interest in infectious skin disorders.

Mission
The mission of dermatology department is to provide students with the basics of normal and abnormal skin processes leading to various cutaneous manifestations. In addition future doctors are provided mentorship in treating common abnormalities that may appear as skin diseases. They are also guided in routine clinical procedures that are performed by dermatologists for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes.
Workshops
Dr. Mahwash Rana has been regularly acting as Toacs facilitator in the post graduate preparatory course organized by CMH Lahore, Dermatology Department twice a year since 2014. In addition she participates in CME activities relevant to her field including online webinars.
Academic Activities
Dermatology department actively participates in clinicopathological conferences organized by the institution.
Lectures
Interactive lectures using multimedia are usedto demonstrate skin anatomy, physiology and common pathologies.
Clinical Rotations
The students posted in Medicine Clinical Rotation are weekly mentored in Dermatology with stress on patient approach and management in clinical settings.
Class Assignments
In order to improve key concepts students are allotted assignments in theory and clinical classes and given feedback on their performance.
Assessments
Students are routinely assessed in both clinical and theory areas in order to gauge their grasp of major concepts and practical approaches in Dermatology.
